THE MATERIAL BEHIND THE PRODUCT

It begins with
a fishing net

Nets and ropes are made to withstand a working life at sea. When that life ends, their mixed materials can make recycling difficult.

At our Scottish site, we deconstruct suitable nets and ropes, separate the materials, then shred and pelletise the recovered plastics for new uses.

450tonnes

of material diverted from landfill, as reported by Dekmar.

About this figure

Company-reported total from Dekmar’s previous website, checked 16 October 2026. A reporting period was not specified; this is not an annual figure or a measure of waste recovered from the sea.

A FAMILY BUSINESS IN FRASERBURGH

The people
behind Dekmar

Founder Derek Wiseman’s background in fishing and lecturing led him to a new challenge: finding a practical use for end-of-life nets and ropes.

His father repaired nets by hand. That knowledge now helps the family business take them apart for recycling. Co-owner Marj looks after administration and finances, alongside the team carrying out the daily work of separation and production.

“My motivation is creating a legacy.”Derek Wiseman, founder
More about Derek’s background

Derek’s experience of the marine industry underpins the business. What began with dismantling a fishing net developed into a process for recovering polymers and creating new products.
